I picked Petunia up just a few minutes before the end of school and broke the news to her. Sharky and Bear dug a nice deep grave for Stella, just in perfect view of the window and bird feeder.

I brought Stella out in her little box and everyone sat around on the couch, including Gabby, and said goodbye. Gabby appeared to be a bit confused and kept snuffling, and nosed her once. Malcolm and Cosmo didn't pay any attention (Malcolm had given her a kiss right before she passed away). Petunia got teary and kissed her. (I am grateful to Bast that Stella died peacefully and looked like she was sleeping.)

I put the top of the shoebox on and we all went outside and buried her. Bug cried and we all got a bit teary. I re-emphasized the fact that this was just her physical body, that her spirit was no longer in it and was free again, no longer worried about sickness.

I went and laid down in bed and fell asleep for a bit. Malcolm laid down next to me and kept me company.

Later on, we got up and dressed and went to a UMC that was having an old-fashioned neighbourhood block party (a "trunk or treat") at the edge of Riverside. Petunia had a blast, so did Bear and Bug (especially Bear, since at 13, this is his last year to trick or treat). The UMC passed out free popcorn, sodas and hotdogs so we all had a snack as well. The kids really enjoyed being with their dad during this.

On the way home, we swung by Wendy's and picked up Frosty Jrs for all the kids - they had received free coupons at Spooktacular last Friday. We put them in the freezer and the kids ate them for dessert.

We had leftover split pea soup for dinner. No complaints, it was delicious. Mr. D, across the street, called and said he didn't have any TorTers, so he dropped off a large bag of candy for our kids. (As Bear said, it's a real good Halloween when people bring YOU candy! LOL)

Petunia fell asleep early and so did Sharky. I sat up and watched tv because I felt all hollow and empty inside. Bug had a hard time falling asleep, kept coming out and using the bathroom, etc. He ended up crying again about Stella and we talked some more before he went back to bed, and thankfully to sleep.
