Is it Saturday yet?

I found my fave kugel recipe finally this morning (see below) and posted it so I won't lose it again. Highly recommend it, its cheap and easy to make and is definitely comfort food. LOL I posted it in my GTKYFG thread for today - I asked if anyone had any traditional Jewish food favorites. The first couple of answers were kinda bummed out, so I hope I will get some people who not only know food but like it to post.

I have so many friends (even IRL) that have such a small food base that they eat from and never stray from it. I've tried, from the moment Sharky and I got together, to expose not only him but the kids to a wide variety of things. I don't want to force them to like things, just to have the experience and appreciate it and have knowledge of it. I think I've done a pretty good job. For example, Bear went on a field trip this week with the culinary class to a food distribution company (they deliver to all restaurants in town except Applebee's). At one point, the lady guiding the tour held up a vegetable and asked if any knew what it was. Bear did - it was brocco-flower (a hybrid of broccoli and cauliflower). He said the other kids laughed at him, thinking he made it up - and were surprised when the lady said he was right. I was proud of him.

Sharky has to work today, and I'm letting the boys sleep in. Petunia got up not long after 8:00 a.m., she usually wakes up on the weekends when her dad gets up. Its not that cold out right now, only 60.8 °F, but the humidity is high and makes it feel (at least to me) colder. Yesterday was like 15 degrees colder but felt the same (to me). Guess I'm getting old? LOL Oh well, I like being cold, I really do. I have more energy than when I'm hot and I just want to lay around like a slug.

When I was at Publix the other night, I bought two frozen bags (b1g1f) of Ray's New York Bagels (onion of course). Had one this morning, but accidentally burnt the top in the toaster oven. Have to reduce the time cooked, next time - first bagels I've had to cook frozen in a toaster oven, and ours is a bit old and finicky. The top of the bagel was black and so were the onion crispies, but OMGs, it still was absolutely delicious. Makes all those other bagels I've been eating (like Lender's) taste like bread rolls. I read up on them on their website and it turns out they only cook the bagels like 95% so those 5-7 minutes in the toaster oven makes it like it just came out of the bakery oven - crisp on the outside and soft as a baby's bottom on the inside. Totally freaking awesome...
