OMGs, I am still so totally whipped from yesterday! It was in the 90s, but at least there was a little breeze. I got a bit of sun and wore my legs out chasing after kids. LOL (I'm still having a hard time walking, I think I might have a heel spur on my right heel.)The Jacksonville Zoo was a blast. We got there a few minutes before 9:00 a.m. and met C who gave the kids their suits. They got dressed in the car and were not seen by everyone in the world like they predicted. LOL We went straight to the zoo's new water park but it doesn't open until 10:00 a.m., so we went to the new playground behind the carousel. We haven't been to the zoo for so long, so much has changed and it was almost like going to a brand new zoo for us.
The new playground is like a mini "Swiss Family Robinson" tree house with a giant birdsnest and egg in one portion and a house inside an "oak" with acorn chairs to sit in! There are slides and a giant spider web to climb on. It was so cool, made me wish I was a kid again. The ground there (and at the water park) was a really squishy material. Bear thought it was cork (it looked like it) but C and I think it's probably more of some kind of recycled rubber material. It was odd to walk on but I'm sure it really cushions the falls of young kids.
Went to the water park and lathered up the kids with sunscreen and let them play. The new water park is adorable but definitely for toddlers and small kids, not big ones. My sons still had fun though, splashing around. LOL Petunia and L had a blast playing. We spent an hour there and got out just in time - before all the day camps showed up. I really wish I had taken a picture of the water park before it opened. There are whales, dolphins, a manatee, a ray, and two turtles for the kids to play on, with 'puddles' and nozzles shooting water, etc. It was really a great set up.Went over to the carousel and the kids rode twice. Bear rode the eagle and the rhino, Bug rode the okapi and the gator, and Petunia rode the swan bench and the palamino horse. They all received "collector's cards" of the animals they rode. Poor Petunia was so scared, that's why she rode the swan with me the first time 'round, but she got up enough guts to ride the horse after I told her that her great-grandpa used to ride palaminos. I'm so proud of her that she tried to be a brave girl. (As I predicted, by the end of the second ride, she lost all fear. LOL)
We then went to the giraffe area and the kids all got to pet the giraffe. (So cool!) We also saw the elephants and the rhinos and the huge woodstork "nursery".
Afterwards, C took us all out to lunch at Moe's (Petunia's request! LOL) and we had a lovely time sitting and chatting and having fun. We only had an hour to kill after that, so the kids and I walked around the new Hobby Lobby in Regency (totally awesome store) and drooled over all the really cool stuff they had there. Then it was 5:00 p.m. and we drove down the road and picked up Sharky and went home. I was so exhausted and in a lot of pain. I should have taken some ibuprofen but I forgot to. Bug fixed a small dinner (we were still pretty stuffed from lunch), we watched a bit of tv and read, and then all went to bed.
Of course, the moronic neighbours shot of bottle rockets just as we were going to bed. Damn, I hate that stuff. Poor Gabby dog was all freaked out over it and I don't blame her.
Petunia got up with us around 7:00 a.m., I woke Bug up at 9 and Bear was supposed to get up as well, but I just realized he is still in bed sleeping. Geeze, teenagers! LOL
What are we doing today? I don't know. Sharky is already outside working on Ethyl, he wants to get as much done as possible before it gets too hot outside. I'm in way too much pain to do much walking. Will probably have to send him with a list to the grocery store to pick up a few things...
