What do people do with their turkey after all the meat was gone? We always "recycle" ours. I boil it for a bit, then let it cool, and pick the rest of the meat off. It's amazing how much meat you can find after you think you've removed it all. LOL That meat isn't like the pretty slices people prefer, but it's fab in soups, etc. I then boil the bones again for a couple of hours and it makes a wonderful stock.
My uncle cooked a 20 lb bird on Thursday and it fed 11 people (along with a ham). He gave us the turkey to take home afterwards and we got 10 more dinner meals (and 5 sandwiches) out of it before I boiled it. I then got about 20 cups of turkey noodle soup of the stock and meat that was left. Pretty good for a free bird, huh? LOL
I'm really trying to focus my kitchen life on the concept of being frugal - not being wasteful. Our ancestors didn't waste anything and with people going hungry in our own country, it makes me feel guilty to waste food, you know?
I really want to start a compost pile in the back yard. I think it will be one of my New Year's resolutions.
