Great article: Grace Wynne-Jones on a craze that could make a copy of Sense and Sensibility mellow out in California and then have it fly off to Florence, having been found in a phone booth in Prague. Wonder what Jane Austen would make of that? Meet the book crossers
I was shell-shocked this morning when I woke up. I kept my wits about me and was able to write down the dream before I started to forget it all.
We went to the library yesterday and I picked up a handful of books. Petunia picked out 3 and Bug checked out a graphic novel. Bear said he was reading his Warrior (cats) book at home so didn't check anything out.
Afterwards, we swung by Dollar Tree and picked up plastic water bottles with lids. One is for Sharky to take to work and the other 3 are for the kids to use when they are outside playing. Also found some flip-flops for the boys - I don't allow them to wear them to stores or anything like that, but they like them to wear outside, etc.
Then, *sigh*, we went to Walmart and picked up socks for Sharky. He's hard on socks and wear them out quickly. I found a great sale and purchased two packs (12 pair total) just to find out this morning, when I pulled them out of the dryer that they were shorty socks! Well, no wonder they were so inexpensive. Geeze. I was so ticked off that I did not notice that, but Sharky said he preferred these since they were cooler than the calf or knee length ones he usually wears. (Remember, his work has NO a/c.)
I was exhausted when we got home. A lot of driving and walking in this heat. We had leftovers for dinner last night. Sunday, we set up the crockpot and cooked some red beans & sausage and served it over rice. Of course, the leftovers last night were even better than it was on Sunday. Mmm... Not sure what we are going to have for dinner tonight. LOL
So, what are the plans for today? Have no idea. Have to make some phone calls. Have to wake up the boys. *rolls eyes*
We moved from an apartment to a large house nearby, in upstate New York. Actually, Sharky and others moved everything while I was waiting at Wal-mart to get my prescriptions filled.
I showed the people at WM my new rx card and told them I wanted my rx. She told me I could have it but I had to accept a generic for one drug. When I told her a generic didn't exist, she said it did, but it was only for people on government programs and I qualified. She showed me lots of forms that proved it.
I arrived at the house to find all our furniture there and belongings in boxes. The dining room set was on the second floor, with the bedrooms. I asked why it was there, so far away from the kitchen, and was told that the previous owners had left us their dining room set downstairs. The house was huge and rambling and the set up didn't make logical sense, but I loved it.
As we were exploring the house, my grandfather found a small room on the side that was set up to be an office and showed me. It had lots of windows, a mildewed couch and a desk. I thought the windows looked like they came from a ship, but my grandpa said no, it was just very bad leaded glass with lots of cables in it. As we walked out of the office, I noticed that there were faded baphomets in plaster surrounding the doorway. I showed Sharky the room and said it would make a great office for him and he said he wasn't interested in it.
I found a spoon that we were supposed to leave behind in the apartment, so I went there to return it. The doorman was sitting there at his desk in the lobby, so I gave him the spoon and asked him to return it to the upstairs apartment when he had a chance. I saw on his table that he had a piece of matching silveware there, poking out from beneath a piece of paper. I pointed it out and we laughed.
As I left the apartment building to go back to the house, I ran into Gary Shandling, who was now a police officer. I asked him if he could tell me the truth if I asked a question and he said yes. I asked him if there were any problems with local satanists or pagans and he said no, if there were any, he hadn't heard of it.
I walked around the house with the kids and realized how close the back of the house was to the edge of a cliff. I made a note that we needed to put some type of barrier, like stakes and string, to show where to walk so no one would accidentally fall off. I remembered skidding on the ice and slipping over a long time ago, but was rescued easily. I did not want my kids going through that.
I was upstairs and decided to join everyone else downstairs and took a curvy staircase that was hidden. As I rounded a corner I found a half door and opened it, to find a hidden tiny "love nest" with a bed, shag carpet and mirrored walls. It was so small, it just barely fit two people. I closed the door and continued down the staircase to find that the last bit was incredibly steep and tight, and claustrophobic. I tossed the swiffer duster on a broomstick that I was carrying down it first and then proceeded to climb down the stairs.
I was in the kitchen and told Sharky about the love nest and how we should not tell the kids about it. He was also horrified that I walked down those stairs and said he wanted to close those off since they were not safe.
