We just finished watching Tonari no Totoro/My Neighbour Totoro (1988). This is, hands down, one of the sweetest films I've seen in a long time. No violence, no enemies, just two little girls with a wild imagination coming to grips with their mother being hospitalized. The most marvelous part is the glimpse into family life in Japan's countryside. Unlike anime for TV that is shown here in America, this isn't dumbed down for our consumption. The family is shown bathing together, sleeping on the floor, visiting a shrine, etc., and the differences are a joy to see. I would have preferred to see this in the original Japanese and just read the subtitles, but only the English dubbed version was available. All 3 of my kids (7, 13 & 15) loved it , even though some people say this is a film only for little kids - I say it's a great film for the entire family.
