Merry Christmas Eve

We have so much to do today. First thing - need to wake the boys up. *rolls eyes*

My Willow Grove Covenstead Post:

Yeppers, we're all pagans here to some extent (and a few token beloved Christians), but I'm sure all of us do something on Christmas Eve and Day.

What do you do?

Well, in our house, Christmas Eve is the night Santa comes. Justification is that for him to come on Yule AND Christmas is just too hard, so he had to follow the trend. LOL

We have our hors d' oeuvres feast for dinner consisting of cheese/sausage/crackers, chips & dips, teeny quiches, piggies in a blanket, etc. All the kinds of food that you are normally only supposed to have one or two of. I think its very Saturnalia in its nature. LOL No one has ever gotten sick from it (LOL) and there are usually enough leftovers for Christmas Dinner.

See, on Christmas, we wake up, have coffee cake and open gifts. Then, we head to Mom and sDad's for the day. Used to do brunch, but that got difficult as they got older, so now its usually a spiral ham to make mini sandwiches with, pasta salad, etc. Usually stuffed enough that by the time we get home, we only want a snack anyhoo. LOL

A lot of people do seem to treat Christmas as a second Thanksgiving when it comes to family and cooking.

Me, on the other hand, think that one outrageous feast a year of that kind is enough. LOL I remember one Christmas day, my FIL and sMIL joined us (me, Sharky and baby Bear - just found out that Bug was created LOL) and I made a large primitive Muffaletta the day before and served it with chips and dessert. It was delicious and they loved it. (Hey, it could have tasted like crap but they would have loved it anyway because it was the thought that counted, you know? LOL)

My father called and was HORRIFIED that I did not go all out with a huge dinner. OMGs, we were living on the SW coast of Florida and it was hotter than hell (lol) outside - why would I turn the freaking oven on? In his mind, Christmas dinner was a combination of a feast of Baby Jesus and the fact that he was a WWII boy and one never turned down a chance to feast on a holiday (love=food). (Yes, I do realize that he is to fault for one of my many food issues... LOL)

My Where's George? GTKYFG Post:

Do you prefer spending major holidays (religious or not) at home or away on vacation? (Driving from home to a friend's/relatives' house for the day does not qualify as vacation.)

Home, definitely. Family celebrated Xmas once or twice in hotel rooms (vacationing) when I was a child and while fun, just wasn't the same.
